Died in Vain

The chicken hawks, the radical conservatives, the scoundrels whose last refuge is patriotism have more to celebrate today with the revelation that the government is carrying out an extensive domestic surveillance operation by legally compelling Verizon's business unit to turn over daily logs of all phone calls.

The Orwellian named Patriot Act gives the government unprecedented authority to spy on American citizens with only the most cursory oversight. In the wake of the attacks of 9/11, the U.S. Congress fell over itself in a cowardly push to abrogate the constitutional rights of American citizens, and the bastard child of ignorance and stupidity, the Patriot Act, was born.

It's nearly twelve years since 9/11, wars are still being fought, thousands of deaths and horrible injuries later, the Patriot Act is still in force, and the American Constitution is still in tatters.

Every Memorial Day, and every Veterans Day, the politicians love to crow on and on about how the armed services and the sacrifices made by those that have served   are the reasons that we live with the freedoms that we have today.

As time passes, it's becoming more and more clear that those sacrifices have been made in vain.
